October 1st , Day 274. The Bible In 365 Days With Toyin Commentary and Summary  from the books of John, Mark, Matthew and Luke.

Title:

THE GOD OF ALL FREEDOMS

JOHN 51-47

INVALID FOR 38 YEARS:-

Jesus went to a pool called Bethesda Pool (Sheep / Market Pool), and the paralyzed and many with various health conditions go there to jump in when the water is stirred by an angel (this happens periodically) but this man being invalid had nobody to help him in.

Jesus saw him and asked him, do you want to get well?”

Thinking Jesus asked knowing he has hopes for the healing water, he told Jesus his challenge “…I have nobody ..” v.7.

Jesus said “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk” v.8. And the man did – it was instant healing.

I find it rather funny that the people were bugged that he had picked his mat on a sabbath day (given the no work law for the day), rather than rejoicing for the man. As they warned him;

  • v.11 “He replied the man who made me well said to me pick up your mat and walk” he didn’t know Jesus by name.
  • v.14-15 “Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him ‘See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you'. The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well.”

It was during Jesus' second talk with him that he knew Jesus by his face and name, and he told his name to the Jewish leaders, and that fuelled their fault-finding.

THE JEWS LEADERS

They would kill Jesus for healing on a sabbath day, and for saying his Father -(God)!- takes no break, but works even on a Sabbath day and he would too (v.17,19).

  • V.24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has now crossed over from death to life.

Jesus speaks of his dependence on God and the eternal benefits of Godliness – GOOD WORKS done in faith (v.19-30).

Jesus speaks of John’s testimony about him, he also commends John’s acceptance among them (at least they did accept him for a while). (v.35).

  • His assignment on earth he said is greater than John’s.

I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?” (v.43,46-47).

MARK 223-28, MATTHEW 121-8, LUKE 61-5

There are exceptions to the rule of the Sabbath, Jesus told the Pharisees; therefore count it not a sin that;

  • My disciples picked some heads of grain to eat on the Sabbath day
  • David had consecrated bread (Shewbread) meant solely for the priest.
  • Therefore the Sabbath is made for men and not vice versa. [v.27]. so the son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath” (Mk228, Matt 128, Lk 65).
  • ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice’ -God (Matt. 127)

MARK 31-6, MATTHEW 129-14, LK 66-11

PLOTS TO KILL JESUS INTENSIFIED as he went into the synagogue, on the Sabbath, and healed a man whose right hand was withered.

Jesus told them “if any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on a Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?” v.11.

  • Which is lawful on the Sabbath; To do good or to do evil? Lk 69.

MATTHEW 1215-21

Jesus became aware of their plot to kill him and he left there.

But again the crowd followed him. And he healed him but he told them to be quiet. And the scripture was fulfilled as prophesied by Isaiah.(Matthew 1218-21; Isaiah 421-4).

“Behold my servant, whom I uphold my elect in whom my soul

delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him he shall bring

forth judgments to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his

voice to be heard in the street.”

Isa 42:1-2,Matt 12:18-19.

  • It is important that we pray for those in authority so the Word of God will be unhindered and ministers do not suffer unduly.

NIGHT:

  • Remember those on mission fields in prayer tonight.
  • Pray for market Place Lifestyle Christians – that their promotions be unhindered.
  • Pray for the sick that they be healed.
  • Pray and declare God’s blessing upon your life.

For “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. James 516.

The study of the Gospel – Matthew Mark Luke and John you will notice I interstudy in this programme - this is after the written order of the ONE YEAR CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLE. Which enables an easier flow of events, history and stories. And the synoptic books (Matthew, Mark and Luke) are consecutive.
