Day 26. 26th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.

INTEGRITY

JOB CHAPTERS 26-29;

Chapter 26:1-14

THE INTEGRITY OF JOB: Note that Job did not let go [of] his integrity at all.

Job replies to Bildad; expressing dissatisfaction in his words, and progressed his speech praising God better (on a deeper level and extensively).

·      How have you helped the powerless and feeble? what are your great insights? whose spirit spoke through you? (261-4); Job questioned Bildad.

·      Then Job talks about GOD { Must-read v.6-14 Learn to praise God and honour his works through eternal truths as spoken by Job who got a change in circumstances – a perfect restoration}. “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing” v.7

Chapter 27:1-23

Extracts:  “As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, as long as I have life, God’s breath in me, ... I will not utter lies. ..... till I die I will not deny my integrity. I will not let go my innocence. My enemy be as the wicked, my adversary like the unjust, let God allot them the fate of the wicked ....” please read the entire chapter 27.

Contrary to the thoughts of Job’s friend Eliphaz (Job 222-3 — see January 25th, day 25) I think that righteous living has three dimensional impact: on Man, those around him, and the Almighty God. Job had something to hold on to, he was affirmed through the assurance of knowing himself (his own integrity), that this was not a repercussion of his evil ways.

His friends like most friends were no use, they mocked him, tried desperately to impute sin, negative judgment, negative self-perception, and emotions of guilt into him.   Job resisted them, condemning their competitive spirit and their ‘I’m better than you mannerisms and their attitude'.

·      Like Job don’t lose yourself identify in adversity — sometimes that’s all you’ve got left, contend for that as he did until your restoration.

Chapter 28:1-28

An Outpouring Of Wisdom and Understanding:

Job speaks (v.1-28).

We know the place of silver and gold therefore humans go there and mine.

Who knows the abode of wisdom and understanding❓ they cannot be sold been priced beyond Rubies‼️ This mystery is God’s and God’s alone.

Verse 28:

“ The fear of the Lord that is wisdom,

 to shun evil is understanding” -GOD.

Chapter 29:1-25

JOB & HIS FORMER BLESSINGS:-

In conclusion he said: I can’t forget my days of divine safety, loving-kindness, abundance, and ever-increasing riches. I was satisfied and respected. I rescued the poor and fatherless. I put on righteousness and justice as my clothing.

Please read the entire chapter 29.

Never forget the goodness of the past, even when an adverse situation has robbed you of much. It is a righteous act, to thank God for all of his past deeds. Some ungodly minds could accuse you of living in denial but as we go further in this study through the book of Exodus you'll find it rather godless to forget regards of your crisis! More so, we can't go wrong copying Job who eventually got responses from God and was perfectly restored!! In crisis I strongly believe that if you take on Job's approach you will get Job's outcome too!

NIGHT:

There are some scriptures that must guide your heart as a Christian, this is a must-know for the believer;

Job 28:28  “The fear of the Lord that is wisdom,, to shun evil is understanding.” -GOD.

Day 25. 25th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.

MAKE A CASE

JOB CHAPTERS 22-25.

CHAPTER 22:1-30

Eliphaz condemns blamelessness! (v.1-3).

He challenged Job and lays fake accusations on him. (v.4-10)

v.5.  “Your wickedness is great and thine iniquities infinite.”

v.10. Therefore snares are round about thee and sudden fear troubleth thee; He mocks on: v.19-20.

v.21-27

Eliphaz’s advice is good though offered spitefully.

We should all do this:

v.21-23.  [Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way, prosperity will come to you. Accept instruction from his mouth, meditate on his word. Return to the Almighty and be restored remove wickedness far from your house/home/office/workplace/your living].

PROPHETIC:

You want to study this;  { 22:28-30}.

It is interesting that Eliphaz in his bad mood made prophetic utterances. Shows we are ALWAYS BETTER WITH GODLY FRIENDS NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE.

·      "What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways" v.28

CHAPTER 23:1-17

Job’s languish;

 I DON’T KNOW WHERE GOD IS, I CANNOT FIND HIM {v.2-6}.

MAKE A CASE;

Job seems to have two Judges or at least a Judge (God Almighty) and an accuser (Satan). Job was so so sure if he could see God and make a case before him he would be vindicated & delivered forever (v.4-7)

HE TESTS ME:  I can’t find him, I do not see him, I wish I catch a glimpse of him BUT HE KNOWS ME. When he has tested me, I come forth as gold.  (see v.8-10)

I have kept his ways ~ his commands without detouring (v.11-12).

HE STANDS ALONE, who can oppose him?

Crisisphobia:- (v.14) He carries out his decree against me and many such plans he still has in store. That is why I am terrified (..v.15).

Chapter 24:1-25

INJUSTICES:

Find Job lamenting his observations in this chapter (please read through all the verses 1-25), see a few extracts below:

v.1. Why Does the Almighty not set time for judgment?

It is Complex in modern times as God has placed governments and systems; he expects justice from them. And that is why we submit to the authorities, sadly they disappoint us with lapses and corruption in all arms of the government and all the government agencies, in every nook and cranny of the society - our world.

v.17b. They make friends with the terrace of darkness.

Chapter 25:1-6

Bildad’s answer was brief. An indication of his friends becoming weary. v.2.

Dominion and awe belong to God.....

v.3. "IS THERE ANY NUMBER OF HIS ARMIES❓ON WHOM DOES HIS LIGHT NOT RISE❓".  Of a truth  He is kind;  the sun shines on all creatures and the rain is equally enjoyed by the wicked and the righteous.

v.4. How then can a mortal be righteous before God❓ How can one born of a woman be pure?

Prayer and reflection:

Read Proverbs 20:19; ‘A gossip betrays confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.’

JOB's friends seem to have been talking behind him (Job 5:27, January 20th) and that is partly why they could not be empathetic and quickly slipped into fault-finding, accusations, and in fact cursing at different points in time.

Pray for those who are in a 'dark' place right now, if you have slandered or falsely accused somebody ask for forgiveness. If you have a weakness with your tongue it is a good time to pray and examine how you could improve this area of life.

NIGHT:

ACTION: Write down 4 tips for developing positive listening skills; apply that to your lifestyle. It should help you avoid negative listening and speech too.

Proverbs 20:19; “A gossip betrays confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.”

Day 24. 24th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.

I KNOW MY REDEEMER LIVETH

JOB CHAPTERS 19-21.

CHAPTER 19;

JOB UNLEASHED:

v.1-2. How long will you torment me, you crush me shamelessly?!

v.3-4. He thinks his friends believe he had some secret sins. He insist that would not be their concern and he should be left alone.

v.7. He laments over a lack of justice as we do in our societies today

RELATIONSHIPS DO NOT GROW ON TREES, nor do we frame them up.

He misses his relationships; as he feels alienated; from family, acquaintances & close friends. (v.13-15).

Difficult Staff.

v.16. His servants have become unwilling.

Even his wife resents him (v.17).

Job didn't say too much but what he has said and what we know to have happened is enough. Staff, especially in a sole proprietorship as in the case of Job, are the least dependable, even in conglomerates and multinationals I doubt commitment when 80-90 percent have suddenly died. A wicked problem interferes with staff; because if Human Resources is hit everything is hit. If human resources (which is the main capital of any organisation) thrive other resources have the propensity to flourish.

A CALL TO PERSONAL HYGIENE FOR JOB

- {for everybody really} — His wife complains of his bad breath. I wonder if he had sores in his mouth, or his disease cause bad breath as some illnesses do. His illness hampers his relationships, and now his wife does not really desire him anymore. Good oral health and personal hygiene help.

A PLEA TO HIS FRIENDS

(v.21-22). I think it’s unnecessary though vindicating!

I stopped having best friends. I just now believe in being pleasant.

JOB's BEST BOOST AND BOAST (my opinion):

I KNOW MY REDEEMER LIVETH

AND

I BELIEVE IN RESURRECTION v.25-27    This is the best boost so far?!   Have you ever heard 'encourage yourself in the Lord' — That's the height of it!

CHAPTER 20:1-29

Zophar replies;

Your words are dishonoring, therefore I will reply ( please see verses v.1-29).

a few extracts

v.5. The joy of the wicked & hypocrite is brief ....

v.15. He will spit out the riches he swallowed; God will make him vomit them

v.19. For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; ....

         he has seized properties he does not own .....

v.22. ....Distress will overtake him; the full force of misery will come upon him ...

v.27. The heavens will expose his guilt; the earth will rise up against him. ...

v.29. Such is the fate God allots the wicked, the heritage appointed for them by God.

To avoid this we shall shun evil, and run away from wicked people.

CHAPTER 2:11-30

Job replies; let me speak now afterward continue to mock me.(v.2-3).

MY COMPLAINT IS NOT TO MAN.

(v.6-13). But I wonder why should the wicked enjoy and be at ease YET THEY RESIST GOD; v.14, (v.14-18).

.... from ancient time this fact has been observed and just like Job said in (v.19-21). The evil is stored up for their children. But why? They should have their punishment for their sins. Many will wittily commit sin if they know they would get away with it.  They care less who inherits their punishment. Our peace as Christians is our connection to the cross; Christ who died shamefully and he rose up again; broke the chains of sin and it's consequences.

What do you think? Job thinks it is better for them (the wicked & the hypocrites) to be punished during their own lifetime (v.20-21). But again God knows best! (v.22-26).  v.34. So how can you console me with your nonsense?   Nothing is left of your answers but falsehood!

NIGHT:

The eye is the window of the soul, but Job’s friends couldn’t see as bare as he was.

Pray “Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speaks grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous” Psalms 31:17-18

Day 23. 23rd January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.

A MESS

JOB CHAPTER 15-18

The conversation became A MESS! as trading words continue between Job and his three friends.

JEALOUSY & COMPARISON.

Job and his three friends continued comparison and trading of words negatively.

15:1-9. Eliphaz takes a turn at words against Job, condemning him further; “your speeches have no value, your sin prompts your own mouth. Do you have monopoly on wisdom ? what do you know that we do not know?” (Please read chapter 15).

15:25

False Accusations Of Job continues based on the negative interpretation of his circumstances.

“All his days the wicked man suffers torment (v.20) because he shakes his fist at God (v.25), He vaunts himself against the Almighty”

v.34. For the company of the godless will be barren, fire will consume the tents of those who love bribes.

JOB CALLS HIS FRIENDS MISERABLE COMFORTERS. (16:2)

If you were in my place I could make fine speeches too and shake my head at you.

But that’s not my style I would encourage you instead and bring comfort to your relief.

But God himself has done this “surely Lord you have devastated my household, you have turned me over to the ungodly” (read v.1-22)

My spirit is broken (17:1)  Job declares.

... surely mockers surround me; my eyes behold their provocation. They will not pass for this, they denounce their friends for reward; the eyes of their children will fail (17:1-5).

Job recounts his sorrow and experience of tragedy (17:6-16).

CHAPTER 18

Bildad replied: “When will your speeches end❓” v.2

v.4. You tear yourself to pieces in your anger, shall we abandon the earth for your sake? He scorns Job!

“The lamp of the wicked man is snuffed out, the flame of his fire stops burning ..... the vigor of his steps weakened ..... Terrors startle him on every side and dog his every step” (v.5-11 extracts).

Death’s firstborn has devoured his limps, he has no offspring or descendants (v.12-19).

People of the west are applaud at your fate those of the east are seized with terror.

Surely such is the dwelling of the evil man (v.21-22).

NIGHT:

“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24

Sometimes, we are shocked and left lost for words.We ought to have trained our minds so response don’t come across as insensitive or even damaging.  The Proverb above is a good place to start your learning from. And when the situation is extremely sad and bad; I suggest you say: ‘I believe in you’ or ‘I trust you’ .  Silence is also very good. It is true that Job’s friends had a long period of silence. Their silence gave Job a voice.

·      Note that ‘I trust you’ a reassuring phrase is different from PUTTING TRUST IN the latter is for the ALMIGHTY GOD.

ENOUGH!

JOB CHAPTERS 12-14.

They (his friends) accused him and spite him. And left him feeling taunted. He had enough.

12:2-5. He talks at his friends: "I am not inferior to you. I become a mere laughing-stock to you" (12:5) — "You talk like you do because you are at ease you have contempt for misfortune."

v.9 — "Who does not know the hands of the LORD has done this?"

DEVELOP YOUR LISTENING SKILLS.

v.11. Does not the ears test words, as the tongue test food?

v.13-25 (some extracts):

“To God belong wisdom and power.   He leads rulers away stripped;  He makes fools of judges.

He silences the lips of trusted advisers;

and takes away the discernment of elders.

He makes nations great and destroys them;

He enlarges nations and disperses them

He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason;

He makes them wander in a trackless waste

He makes them stagger like drunkards”

SILENCE IS WISDOM! Job continues his plea;

He tells his friends YOU ARE FORGERS OF LIES You are worthless physicians “all of you”!  Choose to be silent, then you show wisdom.

Listen to my argument, my pleas or will you speak wickedly on God’s behalf? will you speak deceitfully for him / show him partiality❓

THOUGH HE SLAY ME, YET WILL I TRUST HIM (1315).

Chapter 14:1-22

14:1 — "Man born of a woman are of few days, and full of trouble."

Job continues to talk ( using talking as a therapy - psychotherapy).

He talks to God, he assesses sin, the vanity in death (v.7 compare 10), the strength of God, affliction,,

THE VANITY OF DEATH —!

How it is determined by God the length of each of our days to be spent on earth: "A person's days are DETERMINED; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed." v.5

·      "If someone dies, will they live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come." v.14. Job obviously worked for all his wealth.  This emboldened him in his outpouring.

JOB STATES THAT GOD IS OVERPOWERING (v.15-22);

He wants his sins covered up (v.17)

When hopes are dash for Job it's all God's making; "You overpower them once for all, and they are gone; you change their countenance and send them away." v.20.

{v.11} — Note Job's metaphorical use of a dry lake as death, dying. He uses spiritual language to communicate to the divine. Gushing waters, spring would be life - the presence of the divine—Holy Spirit.

NIGHT: Faith requires a devotion to God through thick and thin

CRISISPHOBIA AND GODLINESS

JOB CHAPTERS 8-11.

FEELING HANDICAPPED❓ Bildad did!, but hides his helpless feelings by accusing Job’s dead children of wrongdoing.

  • The second friend to respond to Job’s words was Bildad.

I think that seeing Job in such an “unredeemable” situation left them feeling hopeless, however, their love for Job and respect for the Almighty God gave them strength to stick around and talk.

He is distressed without answers to "the whys".

  • He was a very miserable comforter indeed he was sure 'Job’s 10 children sinned against the Almighty God who does not pervert justice and had given them the penalty for their sins’ 83-4.
  • I think that those words are too cruel to say. Nobody should be told that.  The best of half-truths ever! Trusts in his defence of God but meanness & lies in his conclusions against Job's ten late children.

But then again He reassures Job.

Read through and find more curse quenchers.

‘Seek and plead with the Almighty, if you are blameless he will restore you. Your beginnings will seem humble, he will restore you to your prosperous state’ v.5-7. God does not reject the blameless and will fill your mouth with laughter (820,21).

  • These were the most adequate words and prophetic utterances (Bildad's). It is therefore a huge task for all believers to decipher because self comes between you, the prophet and God (note that the prophet could be a friend/ or anybody that God is using at that point of your crisis to speak to you) . Job also had the correct analysis of the situation but self, worrying and pain would not let him settle on those as facts.
  • Our need for patience with those around — Bildad was first judgemental, and insensitive (self) before making life changing utterances: speaking restoration into Job's situation.

CHAPTER 9

JOB AGREES with BILDAD;

91-2.  I know this is true but how can I prove my innocence before God.  Job magnifies God, recounting;

Job 97. “He commands the Sun and Stars".

He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted”.

  1. 910. Job has taken on the prophetic words of Bildad (see 59)

  1. 911. God is everywhere but “ when he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him”.

A Quarrel with God❓914

How can I have a dispute with him. Or find appropriate words to reason with him.

God encourages us ‘come let us reason together [Isaiah 118]’

GOD’s Greatness -  919

Job’s despair continues: ‘even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me if I were blameless it would pronounce me guilty. I despise my life’ 920-21

GOD: allows destruction of both blameless & righteous (922).

Stress Management: 927,30

Job attempts to manage his depression through self-help strategy which did not help. And that is because there was no improvement to his situation. There was no change; no life-transforming change. It was all static and blink. ‘I try to smile but then what’s the use, I try to take a good bath and keep clean even my hands but I am crisisphobic; terrified by his fear (v.34) and convicted - guilty! Job declares:

I am fed-up! 101,921

LORD GOD; "Don’t charge me guilty Lord, please what charges do you have against me?"

How do you manage stress or depression?  I recommend:

  • Writing therapy - [I think that writing yields speedier recovery]
  • Talking Therapy - major in Job's stress self-help technique (it is also the default technique for most people).
  • Self-Care — Hygiene, Appearance, Good Clothing, Healthy Living - Food, Physical Activities, Movements, Exercise,
  • If diagnosed then you should through active awareness and Support for your Mental Health: Do an Online Course, Improve a Skill or Learn a skill. This is very life-changing, because while studying with minimal external interference new thoughts are preoccupying your mind where the battle is.

I am feeling oppressed Job unleashed (Job 103

JOB CONTINUES with A Plea And A Talk 102-22.

CHAPTER 11

Zophar His Friend;

Got to a point where he felt shut down and ready to talk. He equally rebukes Job for his wagging tongue. 112-3.

  1. 117. Building on Eliphaz's words too; he said "can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?” And he went on [v.8-12].

BUT THEN HE CHANGED HIS TALKING STRATEGY:

And he began to encourage Job to purify himself and he will be restored (v.13-20).

His words (1113-20) are curse quenchers, which would set good order and restore Job his wealth and finances which was taken from him.

NIGHT:

“Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, Above all these things put on charity, which is the BOND OF PERFECTNESS. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” Colossians 312,13a,14,15

  • Fellow’s in Christ what we are putting on here aren’t physical fabrics i.e Clothes, they are spiritual. Once we start bearing those fruits (acting in those ways) they are seen and they influence everything.

Day 20. 20th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.

POVERTYPHOBIC, CRISISPHOBIA, AND BEING SUICIDAL

JOB CHAPTERS 51-27, 61-30, & 71-21 .                                                                                CHAPTER 5

Job’s friend Eliphaz’s continues speaking to Job.

Some of his words are rebuking Job, somewhere encouraging words and somewhere CURSE QUENCHERS. Please read v.1-27.

Let’s examine a few of his words:

REBUKE:

v.1. In your state you have none to help you , none to turn to. Even the ‘saints’ would harbour you! They wouldn’t respond to you . We are here and you wag your tongue! v.2. “Resentment, wrath kills a fool ...” he responds to Jobs words

v.8. “But if I were you, I would appeal to God, ... and commit my cause to him”. He is urging Job to APPEAL TO GOD. Having God-fearing friends who are not on about making the matter worse or cursing is of primary importance. Nor leading you to 'alternative solutions' - such as 'diabolical solutions'; temporary solutions often with grave consequences, joining the occult, or witchcraft; those practices are abominable and detestable to the Almighty God.

Some who have financial crisis, become povertypobic; for financial gains they have ventured into some or all of those evil practices including money rituals and or scamming, phishing, hacking other people's privacy. If this is your practice stop such. Those that do such must know that they do that against the Almighty God. Pressure is not an excuse for sin.

CURSE QUENCHERS;

Avoid being povertypobic and or Crisisphobic learn the curse/calamity quenchers I have highlighted some below,

v.9-10. Because he performs wonders & miracles that are unsearchable! He sends rain. This is an expression of hope. (Read v.9-10)

v.11-16. The lowly he sets on high, ..., He thwarts the plans of the crafty,.... (v.12). He takes the wise in their own craftiness, ....Darkness comes upon them ...(v.13-14). He saves the needy from the powerful (v.15). So that they have hope and “injustice shuts its mouth” (v.16).

v.18. “He wounds but he also binds up, (v.19. He will rescue you from calamities”).

v.24. “You will know that your tent is secure and take stock of your property and find nothing missing”.

HE ENCOURAGES JOB TO REJOICE!

v.17. Happy is the man whom God corrects, don’t despise the discipline of  El Shaddai (Almighty). In famine he shall redeem you and save you from the sword in wars (v.20).

The verse below I would classify as being prophetic at its best interpretation. But would they show Job more the reality of his calamity at the instance they were spoken?

  • “You will laugh at destruction” (v.22)

CHAPTER 6-7

JOB SPEAKS:

Job acknowledges he is overpowered with grieve and anguish of soul, and that he is talking without thinking (61-3).

Somehow, Job knows this could only have been allowed by God (v.4). But he knows the calamity of the magnitude he suffers comes through sin, and demands to know his sins IF he had committed any, (720-21) this proves that Job isn’t a self-righteous man. He appeals to God (720) in desperation (v.21).

Job appears to be transferring aggression or talking at his friends, what he couldn’t do to God. (621, 24-25, 26-27

He appeals (628-30, 71-3).

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, DREAMS, AND SUICIDAL THOUGHTS:

You will expect that in crisis you will become restless, have intrusive memories, want to throw in the towel, and perhaps prefer to die, Job did.

  1. 74. “When I lie down I think ... The night drags on, and I toss and turn on my bed until dawn” 714.
  • Frightening dreams and terrifying visions.

  1. 715. Suicidal thoughts

Read what I call the Curse Quenchers know them and memorize some. We live in a spiritual world. We do not need to be worried about demons or spells. But we need to know the word of God and refrain from cursing others. Words of encouragement are the best.

NIGHT:

Be it friends, neighbours, whatever the scope of our association, God is the Greatest Light and Influence on our eventualities (note that I said eventualities, not realities). Let’s live in his transforming light. He knows what our brothers and sisters do not. And his light is greater than all. Plus he is the ultimate judge.

  • Job seem to have stumbled being blameless!

“Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.” 1 John 210

Based on the information derived (Job chapter 11) Job lived in UZ which existed in the days of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob {(Genesis 1023) the Chronological Bible has therefore concluded and brought this record forward  ( for more details on this please see Pg.70 of the one year Chronological Bible NIV 1995, 2007} and some other events, books and chapters. The chronological sequence of biblical events I shall follow in this commentary and summary programme.

I welcome you; let’s do this together!

JOB CHAPTER 1

BE BLAMELESS AND UPRIGHT, FEAR GOD AND SHUN EVIL;

Job lived in this manner , in the land of UZ. He had ten (10) biological children ( 7 sons and 3 daughters). He was rich and the greatest man in the region (East).

A REGULAR CUSTOM:

v.4-5. His sons had their birthday celebrations and would invite their sisters to eat and feast together. As a custom Job made sacrifices to God for each of them after the feast; thinking they might have sinned against God.

  • The sacrifices were a thoughtful act, inspired by the consciousness of divine presence and fear of God. God's ominipresence acknowledged.

SATAN CAME ALONG!

It was an angelic meeting with God, on a certain day as Angels presented themselves before God and Satan was among them v.6).

Conversation between God and Satan ...(v.7-12); God recommends Job.

Satan accuses Job! He would prove God wrong by afflicting Job — God allows him.

As the devil swung into action; Stroke, health complications,, Calamity—took everything Job had, including his 10 children ( he lost all in a day).

Job said “naked I come naked I go ... the lord gave and the lord has taken away” v.20-22.

Chapter 2:

Satan accused Job again before God. And demanded to afflict him with a disease.

God allowed him but said ‘spare his life’.

Job maintained his integrity. His wife questioned this and advised him to “curse God and die” v.9.

Job told her she sounds like a foolish woman. What? Shall we accept good and not evil from Jehovah?

  • Therefore Job sinned not. (210).

FRIENDS AND THEIR SYMPATHY.

v.11-13. Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar heard of his misfortune and agreed to go see him. They were in a state of shock and began to weep as they saw him he was unrecognizable.

They tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads they sat on the ground in ashes with him ( you may think that that was also a precautionary act); for seven days and seven nights. They were all silent seeing how great his suffering was.

Silence is empowering. You'll find that their comforting presence had strengthened afflicted Job, with that boost he got the strength to lament in chapter 3. It is good to note that silence is more effective than words when ministering to the bereaved and aggrieved.

CHAPTER 3

JOB CURSED HIS DAY OF BIRTH (v.1-26). After the seven days of silence, Job was the first to speak and that was what he did (cursing his d.o.b ).

  • Depressed he had become resentful of self.

CHAPTER 4

His friend Eliphaz responded to that (v.2-21). His response I describe as a mix of praise, comforting words and spells of misery.

“You have comforted and strengthened people when calamity befell them but now trouble comes to you and you are discouraged; ......... Should not your piety be your confidence and your blamelessness your hope? (v.6)   ............. Can a mortal be more righteous than God? .....(v.17).

REFLECTION;

How do you respond in crisis and to crisis?

Not all recommendations and or suggestions are good? Consider the words of his wife! Job Chapter  29.

As we study further, we shall read what I think of as defiling questions his friends progressed with.

NIGHT: Wait, Obey and Trust God

“By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; Who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea” Psalm 655

May the LORD God shield you, and put favourable boundary lines around you. Let him be Jehovah Omnipresent to you in every way IMNJ. Amen.

Day 18. 18th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Genesis.

AN OATH

GENESIS 4728-31, 481-22, 491-33, 501-26

GOD ALMIGHTY CAN I SEE YOU.

Jacob preparing for his death (@ age 147) called Joseph and asked for a promise and an oath. Saying “...put I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt”(v.29). And Joseph made an oath concerning the matter.

A FATHER’S LAST BLESSING

4728-31, 481-22. Jacob said “Ephraim and Manasseh are mine, just like Reuben and Simeon are mine” v.5. He recounts EL SHADDAI (GOD ALMIGHTY) appearing to him in LUZ (Bethel 2811-19) —and blessing me.  Also, note 3228

v.11-19. JOSEPH bowed down his face to the ground so Jacob could bless him with his children by his side, Jacob deliberately placed his right hand on the younger (Ephraim) and his left hand on the older (Manasseh).

He blessed Joseph 4815-16

CHAPTER 491-28

Jacob called all his son’s { the twelve tribes of Israel (see 4928), and blessed them, and or telling them their future; each differently, some of his words set moral examples, some were blessings, some curses, a few extracts:

For example to Reuben who had raped his concubine he said “Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honour, excelling in power. Turbulent as the waters you will no longer excel, for you went up onto your father's bed, onto my couch and you defiled it."

v.3-4. The way Jacob handle the situation set a leadership example for us all. He did not allow the error to destroy his family. He let emotions lie low until much later.

To Asher  he said "Asher's food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king".

Joseph “Joseph is a fruitful vine, whose branches climb over a wall. With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility. But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber because of the hand of the Mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, and stone of Israel:) even by the God of thy father. Who shall help thee and by the Almighty, who shall blessed thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: The blessings of thy father has prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the brow of him that was separate from his brethren" (4922-26).

Jacob retired to his bed and died (4933) after blessings and talking to his sons.

Joseph fell upon his father's face and wept upon him and kissed him (501).

He commanded the servants his physicians to embalm him. His burial was of a ceremonial nature, and elaborate in nature. Egypt mourned him for seventy days (503) Pharoah's officials went with Joseph to the land of Canaan to bury him where he wanted to be buried near Mamre in the field of Machpelah where Abraham & Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Leah his wife were buried. ( 4929-32, 5012-13).

His brothers, afraid that Joseph may repay them now evil for evil (that's guilty conscience).  They lied to him that their father said he should deal kindly with them. This made Joseph weep (5017).

Joseph invited them to strengthen them. They fell down before him; they said "behold we are your servants".

Joseph's reply "fear not, for am I in the place of God? but as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day to save much people alive. Now, therefore, fear not; I will nourish you and your little ones".

Joseph live 110 years  (v.22), with his children and grandchildren and his great grandchildren (3rd generation) around him (v.23). He ask to be buried in the land promised to his fathers ( to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob). The Israelites made him an oath to take his bones away from Egypt (v.24-25)

He died and was embalmed and put in a coffin in Egypt (5026).

NIGHT:

GENESIS 5024 Joseph had foresight of the miserable place Egypt would become for the Israelites, so he asked to be taken back to Canaan when they leave.  The people surely did not imagine the possibilities, especially of the circumstances that could force their departure. Hundreds of years later it happened.  But it was prophetic. Joseph had great insight and expressed God’s wisdom.   “Wisdom is profitable to direct” Ecclesiastes 10:10

Day 17. 17th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Genesis.

RELOCATION TO THE DISTRICT OF RAMESES
GENESIS CHAPTERS 45-47.

King Pharoah was delighted with the news of Joseph’s brothers presence in Egypt.

He offers them place in Egypt, the choicest part. He gave them gifts, new clothes and but he gave Benjamin three hundred shekels of silver and five sets of clothes. And sent this to their father "Ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey". (v.24). As they left he said ' do not quarrel' And that is a show of affinity, he was already connecting with them.

Jacob Joseph’s father was stunned! I like to describe this as being in a state of shock as he had been mourning Joseph for over twenty years. But when he saw the cart’s and the gifts including donkeys that king Pharoah sent to him. He believed that Joseph is Alive and his soul revived.(45:25-28).

As he left for Egypt, he stop at Beersheba { meaning the well of oath and the well of seven which is a covenant place Genesis 2127-33, 2633 }  to pray and God spoke to him!

When your emotions are high, what do you do? When you are sad and deeply distressed what do you do? Israel (Jacob always) prays!

RELOCATION TO THE LAND OF RAMESES.

Joseph met his father up and the rest of the family up at GOSHEN AND IT WAS A VERY EMOTIONAL REUNION.

He had a family meeting with them before their meeting with Pharoah. And he advised them, in preparation for their meeting with Pharoah (4631-34). "Shepherds are detestable to Egyptians, ask to be settled in Goshen" (4633-34).

This step was very crucial, to eliminate and avoid mistakes, rifts, and embarrassment that would otherwise occur.

The meeting was held with Pharoah, he asked them questions about their occupation, ...and  Pharaoh allowed them settle in Goshen (v.3-6). Jacob told Pharoah his age (130 years) and Jacob bless Pharoah (v.7-10). They settle in the best part of the land; which is the District Of RAMESES.

(v.11-12).

CHAPTER 47

GIVE US FOOD OR WE DIE!

A SHOW OF DYNAMIC LEADERSHIP IN CRISIS.

v.16-17.The people had exhausted all they had (in cash) buying food from Joseph they resorted to exchange livestock (their horses, flocks, cattle's and donkeys for grain).

v.18-19. After a year they offered their land  saying " buy us and our land for bread, give us seed that we may live and not die, that the land be not desolate". v.19

Joseph bought all the land for Pharoah (v.20-21).

v.22. He did not buy the land of the priest because they had allotment of food from Pharoah and had NO REASON TO SELL THEIR LAND.

And through this ( the purchase of all lands) Joseph established an abiding law in Egypt such that, the fifth part is given unto Pharoah and fourth part is kept by the citizens.(v.23-26).

Israel had settled in Egypt and had possessions, and multiplied exceedingly!

Do you pray? Plan and collaborate? It helps.

Read & pray : Psalms 781-5, 771,15.

NIGHT: Read & pray : Psalms 771,14-5;

“I cried unto God with my voice, even unto the God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people and the sons of Jacob and Joseph.’   Psalms 785

“For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, Which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children”. For an unending testimony!
