Day 18. 18th January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Genesis.

AN OATH

GENESIS 4728-31, 481-22, 491-33, 501-26

GOD ALMIGHTY CAN I SEE YOU.

Jacob preparing for his death (@ age 147) called Joseph and asked for a promise and an oath. Saying “...put I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt”(v.29). And Joseph made an oath concerning the matter.

A FATHER’S LAST BLESSING

4728-31, 481-22. Jacob said “Ephraim and Manasseh are mine, just like Reuben and Simeon are mine” v.5. He recounts EL SHADDAI (GOD ALMIGHTY) appearing to him in LUZ (Bethel 2811-19) —and blessing me.  Also, note 3228

v.11-19. JOSEPH bowed down his face to the ground so Jacob could bless him with his children by his side, Jacob deliberately placed his right hand on the younger (Ephraim) and his left hand on the older (Manasseh).

He blessed Joseph 4815-16

CHAPTER 491-28

Jacob called all his son’s { the twelve tribes of Israel (see 4928), and blessed them, and or telling them their future; each differently, some of his words set moral examples, some were blessings, some curses, a few extracts:

For example to Reuben who had raped his concubine he said “Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honour, excelling in power. Turbulent as the waters you will no longer excel, for you went up onto your father's bed, onto my couch and you defiled it."

v.3-4. The way Jacob handle the situation set a leadership example for us all. He did not allow the error to destroy his family. He let emotions lie low until much later.

To Asher  he said "Asher's food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king".

Joseph “Joseph is a fruitful vine, whose branches climb over a wall. With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility. But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber because of the hand of the Mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, and stone of Israel:) even by the God of thy father. Who shall help thee and by the Almighty, who shall blessed thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: The blessings of thy father has prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the brow of him that was separate from his brethren" (4922-26).

Jacob retired to his bed and died (4933) after blessings and talking to his sons.

Joseph fell upon his father's face and wept upon him and kissed him (501).

He commanded the servants his physicians to embalm him. His burial was of a ceremonial nature, and elaborate in nature. Egypt mourned him for seventy days (503) Pharoah's officials went with Joseph to the land of Canaan to bury him where he wanted to be buried near Mamre in the field of Machpelah where Abraham & Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Leah his wife were buried. ( 4929-32, 5012-13).

His brothers, afraid that Joseph may repay them now evil for evil (that's guilty conscience).  They lied to him that their father said he should deal kindly with them. This made Joseph weep (5017).

Joseph invited them to strengthen them. They fell down before him; they said "behold we are your servants".

Joseph's reply "fear not, for am I in the place of God? but as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day to save much people alive. Now, therefore, fear not; I will nourish you and your little ones".

Joseph live 110 years  (v.22), with his children and grandchildren and his great grandchildren (3rd generation) around him (v.23). He ask to be buried in the land promised to his fathers ( to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob). The Israelites made him an oath to take his bones away from Egypt (v.24-25)

He died and was embalmed and put in a coffin in Egypt (5026).

NIGHT:

GENESIS 5024 Joseph had foresight of the miserable place Egypt would become for the Israelites, so he asked to be taken back to Canaan when they leave.  The people surely did not imagine the possibilities, especially of the circumstances that could force their departure. Hundreds of years later it happened.  But it was prophetic. Joseph had great insight and expressed God’s wisdom.   “Wisdom is profitable to direct” Ecclesiastes 10:10
