Day 21. 21st January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.
CRISISPHOBIA AND GODLINESS
JOB CHAPTERS 8-11.
FEELING HANDICAPPED❓ Bildad did!, but hides his helpless feelings by accusing Job’s dead children of wrongdoing.
- The second friend to respond to Job’s words was Bildad.
I think that seeing Job in such an “unredeemable” situation left them feeling hopeless, however, their love for Job and respect for the Almighty God gave them strength to stick around and talk.
He is distressed without answers to "the whys".
- He was a very miserable comforter indeed he was sure 'Job’s 10 children sinned against the Almighty God who does not pervert justice and had given them the penalty for their sins’ 83-4.
- I think that those words are too cruel to say. Nobody should be told that. The best of half-truths ever! Trusts in his defence of God but meanness & lies in his conclusions against Job's ten late children.
But then again He reassures Job.
Read through and find more curse quenchers.
‘Seek and plead with the Almighty, if you are blameless he will restore you. Your beginnings will seem humble, he will restore you to your prosperous state’ v.5-7. God does not reject the blameless and will fill your mouth with laughter (820,21).
- These were the most adequate words and prophetic utterances (Bildad's). It is therefore a huge task for all believers to decipher because self comes between you, the prophet and God (note that the prophet could be a friend/ or anybody that God is using at that point of your crisis to speak to you) . Job also had the correct analysis of the situation but self, worrying and pain would not let him settle on those as facts.
- Our need for patience with those around — Bildad was first judgemental, and insensitive (self) before making life changing utterances: speaking restoration into Job's situation.
CHAPTER 9
JOB AGREES with BILDAD;
91-2. I know this is true but how can I prove my innocence before God. Job magnifies God, recounting;
Job 97. “He commands the Sun and Stars".
He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted”.
- 910. Job has taken on the prophetic words of Bildad (see 59)
- 911. God is everywhere but “ when he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him”.
A Quarrel with God❓914.
How can I have a dispute with him. Or find appropriate words to reason with him.
God encourages us ‘come let us reason together [Isaiah 118]’
GOD’s Greatness - 919.
Job’s despair continues: ‘even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me if I were blameless it would pronounce me guilty. I despise my life’ 920-21.
GOD: allows destruction of both blameless & righteous (922).
Stress Management: 927,30.
Job attempts to manage his depression through self-help strategy which did not help. And that is because there was no improvement to his situation. There was no change; no life-transforming change. It was all static and blink. ‘I try to smile but then what’s the use, I try to take a good bath and keep clean even my hands but I am crisisphobic; terrified by his fear (v.34) and convicted - guilty! Job declares:
I am fed-up! 101,921.
LORD GOD; "Don’t charge me guilty Lord, please what charges do you have against me?"
How do you manage stress or depression? I recommend:
- Writing therapy - [I think that writing yields speedier recovery]
- Talking Therapy - major in Job's stress self-help technique (it is also the default technique for most people).
- Self-Care — Hygiene, Appearance, Good Clothing, Healthy Living - Food, Physical Activities, Movements, Exercise,
- If diagnosed then you should through active awareness and Support for your Mental Health: Do an Online Course, Improve a Skill or Learn a skill. This is very life-changing, because while studying with minimal external interference new thoughts are preoccupying your mind where the battle is.
I am feeling oppressed Job unleashed (Job 103)
JOB CONTINUES with A Plea And A Talk 102-22.
CHAPTER 11
Zophar His Friend;
Got to a point where he felt shut down and ready to talk. He equally rebukes Job for his wagging tongue. 112-3.
- 117. Building on Eliphaz's words too; he said "can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?” And he went on [v.8-12].
BUT THEN HE CHANGED HIS TALKING STRATEGY:
And he began to encourage Job to purify himself and he will be restored (v.13-20).
His words (1113-20) are curse quenchers, which would set good order and restore Job his wealth and finances which was taken from him.
NIGHT:
“Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, Above all these things put on charity, which is the BOND OF PERFECTNESS. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” Colossians 312,13a,14,15
- Fellow’s in Christ what we are putting on here aren’t physical fabrics i.e Clothes, they are spiritual. Once we start bearing those fruits (acting in those ways) they are seen and they influence everything.
