Day 22. 22nd January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.
ENOUGH!
JOB CHAPTERS 12-14.
They (his friends) accused him and spite him. And left him feeling taunted. He had enough.
12:2-5. He talks at his friends: "I am not inferior to you. I become a mere laughing-stock to you" (12:5) — "You talk like you do because you are at ease you have contempt for misfortune."
v.9 — "Who does not know the hands of the LORD has done this?"
DEVELOP YOUR LISTENING SKILLS.
v.11. Does not the ears test words, as the tongue test food?
v.13-25 (some extracts):
“To God belong wisdom and power. He leads rulers away stripped; He makes fools of judges.
He silences the lips of trusted advisers;
and takes away the discernment of elders.
He makes nations great and destroys them;
He enlarges nations and disperses them
He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason;
He makes them wander in a trackless waste
He makes them stagger like drunkards”
SILENCE IS WISDOM! Job continues his plea;
He tells his friends YOU ARE FORGERS OF LIES You are worthless physicians “all of you”! Choose to be silent, then you show wisdom.
Listen to my argument, my pleas or will you speak wickedly on God’s behalf? will you speak deceitfully for him / show him partiality❓
THOUGH HE SLAY ME, YET WILL I TRUST HIM (1315).
Chapter 14:1-22
14:1 — "Man born of a woman are of few days, and full of trouble."
Job continues to talk ( using talking as a therapy - psychotherapy).
He talks to God, he assesses sin, the vanity in death (v.7 compare 10), the strength of God, affliction,,
THE VANITY OF DEATH —!
How it is determined by God the length of each of our days to be spent on earth: "A person's days are DETERMINED; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed." v.5
· "If someone dies, will they live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come." v.14. Job obviously worked for all his wealth. This emboldened him in his outpouring.
JOB STATES THAT GOD IS OVERPOWERING (v.15-22);
He wants his sins covered up (v.17)
When hopes are dash for Job it's all God's making; "You overpower them once for all, and they are gone; you change their countenance and send them away." v.20.
{v.11} — Note Job's metaphorical use of a dry lake as death, dying. He uses spiritual language to communicate to the divine. Gushing waters, spring would be life - the presence of the divine—Holy Spirit.
NIGHT: Faith requires a devotion to God through thick and thin
