Day 54. 23rd February Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Numbers And Leviticus.

BE YE HOLY.

LEVITICUS CHAPTER 20-22

LEVITICUS CHAPTER 20

It’s about purity, good sense of judgement, consecration and judgement against wickedness.

God refers to IDOLATRY OFTEN AS PROSTITUTION. If considered properly and well analysed, you find that to be true. Worship, like sex in a marriage relationship, involves cherishing, you are to adore your partner and admire them passionately, so much so, your emotions are bare for all to see.

God therefore would set his face against those who may choose to worship MOLEK, which is a god served by the Canaanites. (202) or offer their children to MOLEK as sacrifice 204, (also see previous day passage 1821).

The LORD said to Moses the people must not ignore those who go after such a god but offer punishment — and that is to put such a person to death (v.4).  The same applies to anyone who turns to those possessed — with familiar spirits, wizards, and spiritists (v.6).

“Therefore, consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am the LORD your God keep my decrees and follow them. I am the LORD WHO MAKES YOU HOLY” (v.7-8). Therefore, there is a holiness we gain from being a part of God's people, ... being his choice -- chosen by Him, in a covenant relationship with God. Then there is the holiness which we become through our living -- making choices -- choosing to honour Him; living life by His instructions (His decrees and laws - his commandments).

PUNISHMENT FOR SEX PERVERTS {v.10-27}.

verses 9-27 states punishment for anyone who acts disobediently, by refusing to keep the decrees which we considered in yesterday’s chapters {186-23, 193-20, 1923-36}. v.9. Anyone who curse their father or mother is to be put to death.

v.10. A man who commits adultery with another man’s wife / neighbours wife is to be put to death {both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death}.

v.11. A man who sleeps with his father‘s wife / daughter-in-law (v.12)  or have same sex Coitus that is man-man or woman-woman sexual relations  (v.13) or marries both daughter and mother or  have sex with an animal are to be put to death - [this is for men and women (v.15-16)] and  any of such like sexual perversion  ( see v.17-21) have grave consequences.

  • Do not live according to their customs (v.23).
  • I have set you apart from the nations (v.24).

BE SENSIBLE:-

Ensure that you make a distinction between clean and unclean. Do not defile yourselves (v.25).

YOU ARE TO BE HOLY UNTO ME

BECAUSE I THE LORD AM HOLY, AND

I HAVE SET YOU APART FROM THE

NATIONS TO BE MY OWN (Leviticus 2026).

We must note that our crave for holy living and choosing acts that enable our holy living is UNTO THE LORD, we are not in anyway going to be satisfying to the world, neither are we going to be pleasing to it.

CHAPTER 21

LIVING AS A PRIEST

The LORD set instructions for the Priest to live by; v.1-24:

These include who to mourn (v.1-4,10-12), personal hygiene (v.5-6), who to marry - Priest are to marry virgins (v.13-15),

v.16-23. Although Aaron, his sons, and his descendants unborn have been chosen in a forever lasting covenant, those disabled among them — that is with physical disabilities must not officiate, they remain entitled to eat the most holy food and holy food (v.16-22,24).

CHAPTER 22

SACRED OFFERINGS (v.1-16)

“Treat with respect the sacred offerings which the Israelites consecrate to me, do not profane my name. I AM HOLY”.

Disobedience and or guilt of contempt leads to death, for it is the Lord who makes the  offerings offered to Him holy (v.9).

Regulations for the Priest’s child who have skin disease (v.4-8) as it pertains to the sacred food.

WHO IS ENTITLED TO EAT SOME OF THE SACRED MEALS?

(v.10-16). Members of his household.

  • No one outside the priest’s family may eat, neither a guest, nor hired servant may eat the sacred food.
  • Slaves bought by the Priest may eat of the sacred meal.
  • The Priest’s daughter who is married but not married to a Priest is no more entitled to eat of the sacred meal.
  • A widow or divorced daughter of the Priest who returns home may eat of the sacred food offerings of her father. NO UNAUTHORISED PERSONS MAY EAT (v.13-16).

God is very particular about how the offerings are perceived and treated because he is involved, he sanctifies them, He makes them holy.

Reflection:

The Church (across all denominations in our world) should come to a published recognition of the divorced, separated, widowed, in the body of Christ. To allow for established processes in managing cases.

Comparing the consequences of disobedience in many cases: DEATH, to the forgiveness earned by the woman caught in the act of adultery and was presented to the LORD JESUS himself in the book of John 8:10-11, and He sets her free!  This forgiveness required is not to encourage carelessness and or lasciviousness.  His last words to her must endear us to obedience, even to go and sin no more

SIN NO MORE !!

NIGHT:

Ponder/Pray: Love leads to purity; holiness.  1 John 210  “Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.”
