Day 202. 21st July Commentary With Dr Toyin Ojo Taken From The Book Of 2 Kings, Isaiah.And 2 Chronicles.

WOOD AND STONE.

2 KINGS 19:1-19, ISAIAH 37:1-20.

IT WAS THREATS Vs FAITH—GOD;

As king Hezekiah heard the words of Sennacherib the King of Assyria.  Hezekiah, distressed wore sackcloths and headed for the temple of the LORD; then he sent his officials to the prophet Isaiah intimating him of king Sennacherib’s threat.

The prophet confirms the King of Assyria is only blaspheming and lost in his indignation.  He will receive a report which will make him go back to Assyria; where he will fall by the sword.

Again the king of Assyria sent a letter to Hezekiah; questioning, and ridiculing his dependence on god, stating that many countries have fallen by Assyria’s sword — whose gods were of no help to them. 2Kgs 19:9c-13, Isaiah 37:9c-13.

(2Kgs 19:14-19, Isaiah 37:14-20)

Yet; King Hezekiah went up to pray to God saying he believes those countries referred in (2Kgs 19:12-13) served wood and stone and not the true living God.

“It’s true LORD that Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands. Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, LORD, are God.” 2Kgs 19:17-18, Also read Isaiah 37:17-20.

Hezekiah believed God will act on his behalf, more so, the words of the king of Assyria discredits God!

Isaiah’s Prophecy Against King Of Assyria — The Word Of The LORD for Hezekiah. 2 Kgs 19:20-37, Isaiah 37:21-38, 2 Chro 32:20-23;

God heard the prayers of king Hezekiah, and He also heard king Sennacherib’s boost and indignation against the LORD.

Therefore, the LORD will preserve Jerusalem and fight against Assyria.

2 Kgs 19:34, Isaiah 37:35.

On the night the prophet Isaiah give these words of prophecy to King Hezekiah, the angel of the LORD visited the Assyrian camp and smote 185,000  men, and Sennacherib withdrew from his plan shamefully; seeing all his captains and armies dead —

Only to be assassinated by his sons while in the temple of Nisrok the god he served. Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king in Assyria.

Hezekiah was respected in the many nations of the earth after these events, and gifts were sent to him from far and wide.

“For the LORD took care of King Hezekiah and his people on every side.” v.22.

Rejoice evermore! The fiercer the enemy the more evident the power of God in our defence!

NIGHT:

God cares. Prayers count. So pray, reporting everything said and done to the supreme God.

“Therefore this is what the LORD , the God of Israel, says; I have heard your prayer concerning ………….” 2Kgs 19:20
