Day 289. 16th October Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin  Ojo Taken From The Book Of Luke.

YOU ARE LIGHT!

LUKE 1114-36

UNDUE ACCUSATIONS TRAILS JESUS’ MINISTRY.

Jesus cast out a demon from a man which had him mute and the man began to speak.  Some in the crowd rejoiced while others accused him of using the powers of Beelzebul.

“But some of them said by Beelzebul the Prince of demons, he is driving out demons” v.15 "And some putting him to test asked for signs from heaven". (v.16).

JESUS LECTURED THEM ON SPIRITUAL RULES AND ORDER.

  • “Any Kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, any house divided against itself will fall. But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you” (v.17,20).
  • Also, read v.24-26. On the danger of being set free from demons/evil spirits and not serving God – That is after giving your life to God. To understand this picture yourself as a vessel or a house that is very attractive many will like to use it and have things inside it and in fact occupy it.

LUKE 1129-32

YOU ARE A WICKED GENERATION❗️ JESUS CONFRONTS THE CROWD,  and

“you will only have the sign of Jonah” he said to them. And because the Ninevites believed Jonah and repented, the Queen of the South sought Solomon’s wisdom, so you this generation will be condemned because I (JESUS) is greater than them (Jonah and Solomon). Yet you are filled with unbelief.

LUKE 1133-36

HIS SAYINGS CHALLENGE US TO SHINE FORTH AS LIGHT. (v.33,36). He states that the eye is the lamp of the body.

  • “See to it then, that the light within you is not darkness” v.35. It is the works of darkness, evil, idolatry; sins that dim or put out our light.

NEGATIVE CRITICISM AND SCRUTINY OF CHRIST but he replies.

  • The Pharisee who invited him for dinner questioned why he ate with unwashed hands – He then confronts the Pharisee in a parable;

Now you pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? But now as for what is inside you - be generous to the poor and everything will be clean for you” v.39-41. He left the window of change; what a true friend of the sinner.

He tells of the woes they gain; saying “because you give God a tenth of your tithe,… but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.” v.42;

  • Woes for the love of eye-service, superiority, and influence (v.43-44),
  • He also confronts the hypocrisy of the lawyers (v.45-53). “When Jesus went outside, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to oppose him fiercely and to besiege him with questions wanting to catch him in something he might say” v.53.

LUKE 121-21

HYPOCRISYis the yeast of the Pharisees – Jesus told his disciples as thousands gathered so that they were trampling on one another (v.1).   Everything done in secret shall be exposed (v.2-3).

ON PERSECUTION JESUS ADMONISHES;

Do not fear your persecutors/haters. And that they should wholeheartedly depend on him.   “I tell you my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more…. Fear him who after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbers. Don't be afraid you are worth more than many sparrows.” (v.4,5,7 extracts also read v.6).

  • God will reciprocate your love: “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.” v.8.
  • Avoid blaspheming. Blaspheming against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven (v.10).
  • If ever you are brought before the law/authorities do not fear the Holy Spirit will give you utterance. v.11-12. Many believers have this gift but are unaware.

BE WISE AND RICH - Jesus instructs believers on godly wisdom and wealth – because “life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” (v.15).

You may find some ministers of God unwilling to be too involved in financial legal disputes. This is because Jesus cautioned an invitation to act in that capacity (Read v.13-14).

Yet another parable from Jesus;

A rich man plans to reconstruct his storage to enable him store up his bountiful harvests, but God condemns his confidence in self, and his life will be taken on the same night❗️

“You fool this very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” v.20-21.

NIGHT:

Are you ever embarrassed to publicly acknowledge God? Read and ponder on Luke 128. This could be especially so for those living in Europe where a larger populace are atheist or agnostic now.

“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.” v.8.

Don’t be embarrassed to ask the Father for courage in prayers!

And we must pray for Europe that exported the Gospel to Africa. Let God remember the very many missionaries that were taken by mosquito bites; as they succumbed to Malaria. That for the death of Christ and those his ambassadors bring forth revival again. Amen.
