Day 290. 17th October Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin  Ojo Taken From The Book Of Luke And Luke.

MANAGEMENT

LUKE 1235-48

READINESS

BE ON YOUR MARKS, SET, AND READY

Be dress, watching, and waiting as servants awaiting their Master’s return, who has gone for a wedding banquet – these was how Jesus taught his audience preparedness.

KEEP YOUR LAMPS BURNING; Jesus charged the believers and disciples who listened to him.

  • Many of us want to be as a lamp set on a hill which cannot be hid. But are we ready to watch and wait for the Master? And act faithfully on his behalf, in his absence while waiting? (study v.42-47).
  • Many in the position of authority and leadership in the Church today are taking advantage of both men and women (fellow believers) as placed in the scenario for Peter and others (v.45). Are you among those no longer expecting Christ? And now serving on your own terms?!
  • That unfaithfulness is the reason the devil seem to be winning in many Christian homes and lives, and even churches. He takes it upon himself to deal the blows. (v.47-48). Because he is aware of every secret sin or backsliding.

THE EARTH WILL BE DIVIDED EVEN FAMILIES FOR MY SAKE (v.49-53).

JESUS QUESTIONS THE HYPOCRITICAL HEARTS – Lacking discernment of spiritual times. Yet they are skilled weather forecasters and astrologers.

  • JESUS PROMOTES Peace, Reconciliation, Dialogue, he wants us to avoid the courts, much as we can. Especially if owing (v.57-59). You will agree, it is easier to pay off a debt while working and scheduling a repayment plan than from behind the prison bars.

LUKE 131-21

v.1-5 – REPENT OR PERISH! Jesus warns. You are just as much a sinner as  those who perished.

MANAGEMENT

PRODUCT, ORGANISATION, LIFE; - is illustrated by Jesus in a parable of an unfruitful fig tree (it didn’t bear for 3 years) and would be cut down by the investor. But the horticulturist in charge advised it should be given an extra year with some consideration – been fertilizer; (in the case of the tree the consideration is FERTILIZER).  Perhaps, it would bear fruit before the decision to cut it down is reached.

“ ‘Sir’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I will dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year fine! If not then cut it down.’ ” v.8-9.

Applying this to a person's life, that child could need extra support, counseling, prayers, or just an extra year of growth!

A product could require some advertising, rebranding or repackaging to thrive; imagine that you also pray for ideas!

A WOMAN CRIPPLED FOR 18 YEARS CALLED FORWARD IN THE  SYNAGOGUE ON A SABBATH AND WAS HEALED (STRAIGHTENED), immediately Jesus touched her.

  • Now you understand the practices in many churches; where they call out the sick for healing. Howbeit, they are often tagged Healing Service / Crusade.

The synagogue leader was agitated because it was on a sabbath day!

Jesus answered him “You hypocrites! Doesn't each of you on the Sabbath day untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for 18 long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?” v.15-16.

They felt humiliated but the people rejoiced. “… the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing” v.17.

WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD LIKE??

  • Jesus likens the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed when asked - “It is like a

mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches." v.19.

  • Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to yeast - “It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about 60 pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough” v.21.

JOHN 91-34

A MAN BORN BLIND HEALED ON A SABBATH DAY –

It was his disciples who drew His attention to his situation; as they passed by and asked with curiosity “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” v.2.

Jesus replied Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but, this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” v.3.

While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” v.5

It was a dynamic miracle “..he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. ‘Go’ he told him ‘wash in the pool of Siloam’ (this means “sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.” v.6-7.

The miracle became the talk of the town. The Pharisees were upset and were at their fault-finding mission against Jesus again for healing on the Sabbath.

They summoned the man and his parents. They confirmed it was Jesus who healed him. But the Pharisees insisted he was a sinner.

As they bothered the man who had received his healing with the same questions v.15,17,18-21,24,26, he replied:

  • Whether he is a Sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!.” v.25.
  • “I have told you already and you do not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? do you want to become his disciples too?” This you will agree is one of the best questions ever! It is backed with the audacity of experience - a unique experience!

They were infuriated and said “You are his fellow disciple! We are disciples of Moses …. we don't even know where he is from” v.28-29.

He answered saying – “That's remarkable! You don't know where he is from, yet he opened my eyes. God listens to godly people who do his will, and not sinners. Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God he could do nothing.” (Extracts v.30-33).

He was eventually thrown out.

Jesus heard what had happened to the man;  he then had a conversation with him. And he believed that Jesus is the Son of God and worshipped him. (v.38)

JESUS TAUGHT THE PHARISEES A DIFFERENT FORM OF BLINDNESS-

Which is connected to the heart. The spiritually blind. Read his conversation with the Pharisees (v.39-41).

NIGHT those who will never see light in the hereafter Psalm 4919. John 9:4-5,39.
