Day 304. 31st October Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin  Ojo Taken From The Book Of John.

THE WORLD’S HATRED

JOHN 1518-27

JESUS EMPASISED THE HATE his disciples will suffer when he has ascended back to his Father. He explains some of the reasons been that:

He has chosen them: “If the world hates you, keep in mind it hated me first. It loves its own. I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.  ” v.18-20

“REMEMBER: what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecute me they will persecute you. ..They will treat you this way because of my name..” (v.20-21 extracts). {October 29 during Feet Washing John 1316}

And because he has taught (the world and the scribes) they become guilt, likewise, he has done signs and wonders which they witnessed. Thus they must face the judgement and wrath of the Father who finds them guilt. (see v.22-25) . He quotes from Psalm 3519,,694; Jh 1525 “But this is to fulfil what is written in their law: ‘they hated me without reason.’”

JOHN 161-35

(v.1-5)—JESUS FOREWARNS, SO BELIEVERS ARE NOT DISMAYED.

Jesus warns his disciples so that they stand secured against persecution from not just the world but even from within the body of Christ – even the scribes who do not know the Father. They know the letter not given to the power!

THE ADVOCATE –

Jesus addresses the grief seen in his disciples as they come to the understanding of the reality of what his experience would be (been taken away); with the promise of the advocate who will prove the world wrong on three counts:– SIN,

RIGHTEOUSNESS AND JUDGEMENT (see v.7-11).  But the Holy Spirit would not come unless he goes away. (v.7).

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you in all truth. He will not speak of his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” v.13.

  • We will also enjoy revelation knowledge through the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said “in a little while you will see me no more, and then after a while, you will see me.” v.16.

  • These words unsettled the disciples for they lacked understanding of his words. So they asked.

“You will grieve but your grief will be turned into joy” v.20. Jesus told them and then gave a figurative speech using a pregnant woman who has come to term – She travails but “she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. ” v.21

  • It is such a joy that cannot be taken away
  • It becomes in time when we can ask anything of the Father and receive [read v.23-24, 27].
  • Our faith in and love for Christ endows us with the Father's love.
  • Again, He tells them how his trial will lead to their abandon of him and that time is now but he is not alone “for my Father is with me.” v.33.

JOHN 171-26

JESUS PRAYED  - [READ HIS PRAYER v.1-26].

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him” v.1-2

He prayed for himself and his disciples (this includes those of us that live by him even in the 21st Century)v.20-21

“I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. I am coming to you now, But I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” v.9,13,17.

“They are not of the world, anymore than I am of the world” v.14

The father guards God's us from the evil as Christ prayed — therefore, we should not desire to die because of their hate (v.15). many Christians have given up the ghost because of the discrimination an intense hate that they have suffered. Believers must take on the prayer of Christ as their shield against them and not fall by their wicked ways.

Jesus returns to where he was in his glory before the creation of the world v.24
