Day 23. 23rd January Bible Commentary And Summary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of Job.

A MESS

JOB CHAPTER 15-18

The conversation became A MESS! as trading words continue between Job and his three friends.

JEALOUSY & COMPARISON.

Job and his three friends continued comparison and trading of words negatively.

15:1-9. Eliphaz takes a turn at words against Job, condemning him further; “your speeches have no value, your sin prompts your own mouth. Do you have monopoly on wisdom ? what do you know that we do not know?” (Please read chapter 15).

15:25

False Accusations Of Job continues based on the negative interpretation of his circumstances.

“All his days the wicked man suffers torment (v.20) because he shakes his fist at God (v.25), He vaunts himself against the Almighty”

v.34. For the company of the godless will be barren, fire will consume the tents of those who love bribes.

JOB CALLS HIS FRIENDS MISERABLE COMFORTERS. (16:2)

If you were in my place I could make fine speeches too and shake my head at you.

But that’s not my style I would encourage you instead and bring comfort to your relief.

But God himself has done this “surely Lord you have devastated my household, you have turned me over to the ungodly” (read v.1-22)

My spirit is broken (17:1)  Job declares.

... surely mockers surround me; my eyes behold their provocation. They will not pass for this, they denounce their friends for reward; the eyes of their children will fail (17:1-5).

Job recounts his sorrow and experience of tragedy (17:6-16).

CHAPTER 18

Bildad replied: “When will your speeches end❓” v.2

v.4. You tear yourself to pieces in your anger, shall we abandon the earth for your sake? He scorns Job!

“The lamp of the wicked man is snuffed out, the flame of his fire stops burning ..... the vigor of his steps weakened ..... Terrors startle him on every side and dog his every step” (v.5-11 extracts).

Death’s firstborn has devoured his limps, he has no offspring or descendants (v.12-19).

People of the west are applaud at your fate those of the east are seized with terror.

Surely such is the dwelling of the evil man (v.21-22).

NIGHT:

“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24

Sometimes, we are shocked and left lost for words. We ought to have trained our minds so response don’t come across as insensitive or even damaging.  The Proverb above is a good place to start your learning from. And when the situation is extremely sad and bad; I suggest you say: ‘I believe in you’ or ‘I trust you’ .  Silence is also very good. It is true that Job’s friends had a long period of silence. Their silence gave Job a voice.

·      Note that ‘I trust you’ a reassuring phrase is different from PUTTING TRUST IN the latter is for the ALMIGHTY GOD.
