Day 58. 27^th February Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin Taken From The Book Of  Numbers.

ORGANISATION AND RESTRUCTURING. 

NUMBERS CHAPTER 2-3.   

In today’s chapters, the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron providing Structural arrangements for their Location and Camping order. Furthermore, the Redemption of Firstborns was perfected. 

CHAPTER 2  

The LORD positioned the entire congregation of Israel some distance East, South, West and North of the Tent of Meeting; each under their standard and holding the banners of their family. 

ON THE EAST SIDE (v.3-9) 

First was the camp of Judah (74,600 men), then the tribes of Issachar (54,400), Zebulun (57,400), Total assigned Eastward to the camp of Judah are 186,400. 

ON THE SOUTH SIDE - (v.10-16). 

The division of the camp of Reuben ( 46,500 men), then Simeon ( 59,300), GAD ( 45,650), Total men assigned to the camp of Reuben Southward of the Tent of Meeting are 151,450. 

v.17. THE TENT OF MEETING AND THE LEVITES: 

The Tent of Meeting and the Levites are positioned in the MIDDLE of the camps. The Israelites camped around the Tent of Meeting - near it which allowed them the proximity needed to perform their duties promptly and efficiently as the LORD desires. 

ON THE WEST - (v.18-24). 

The division of the camp of Ephraim (40,500 men), next to them is the tribe of Manasseh ( 32,200), then Benjamin (35,400). Total men assigned to the army of Ephraim are 108,100. They will set out third. 

ON THE NORTH - (v.25-31). 

First division set North was the division of the camp of DAN (62,700 men), next Asher (41,500 men), then the tribe of Naphtali (53,400 men). Total men assigned to Dan are 157,600. They will set out last. 

Therefore all the men in the camps by their divisions number 603,550. The Levites however, were not counted along with the other Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses not to. 

CHAPTER 3  

THE FAMILY OF AARON AND MOSES:  

When the LORD spoke to Moses at Sinai these are the sons of Aaron who were alive: NADAB his firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar all four of them were anointed and ordained to serve as Priest. However, Nadab and Abihu died when they offered unauthorised fire before the LORD in the DESERT OF SANAI but Eleazar and Ithamar served as Priest during their father’s lifetime along with him. 

APPOINTMENT OF THE LEVITES  

The Lord spoke to Moses saying “ bring the tribe of LEVI and present them to Aaron the Priest to assist him. They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community. They are to take care of all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle” (v.6-8). 

{This is because the LORD has taken the LEVITES from among the Israelites IN PLACE OF THE FIRST MALE OFFSPRING OF EVERY ISRAELITE WOMAN. "For the LEVITES ARE MINE" says the LORD} — (v.12). 

v.14-39.  

TAKE THE CENSUS OF THE LEVITES  

The Lord commanded Moses to take the census of the Levites by their families and clans, including every male a month old or more. And Moses did. 

These are the names of their families and clans: GERSHON;  clans of the Gershonites: Libni & Shimei KOHATH;  clans of the Kohathites Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. MERARI;  clans of the Merarite are Mahli & Mushi 

The total number of the Levites including every male a month old or more was 22,000. 

REDEEMING THE FIRSTBORN SONS:-  

According to the words of the LORD, Moses counted and made a list of all firstborn Israelite males who were a month old or more and they were 22,273 (v.42). The LORD took the Levites in place of all the firstborn of the Israelites. The same was done for the livestock. 

The livestock of the Levites was taken in place of all the 1st Born of the livestock of the Israelites (v.41). 

v.46. To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the numbers of the Levites; FIVE SHEKELS OF 

SILVER was collected for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel. The money collected by Moses; [1365 shekels of silver (v.5)] for the redemption of the additional Israelites was given to Aaron and his sons as commanded by the LORD to do (v.51).

Ponder/Pray: These are my brothers and sisters, Jesus structured Christianity —The brotherhood.  Luke 8²¹    "And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it."
